Kalenjin leaders and professionals drawn from across the Rift Valley have hit out at Deputy President William Ruto asking him to put his presidential election campaigns on hold until 2022.
The group asked the second in command to focus on helping President Uhuru Kenyatta deliver the many Jubilee Party pre-election promises to Kenyans instead of campaigning round the clock.

Speaking during a meeting in Bomet town on Sunday, June 28, the leaders said the DP should leave his allies who prioritised campaigns over service to the citizens.
“I would like the deputy pesident to really understand the presidency and leave his wayward allies who think that they can begin campaigning for 2022. It’s not yet time, we still have two years to go, we need development," noted one of the leaders from the South Rift Professionals group.READ ALSO: Coronavirus update: Health CAS Rashid Aman confirms 120 more COVID-19 cases, tally rises to 6,190
The group expressed its support for the ongoing crackdown on Jubilee Party rebels that has seen a majority of Ruto’s allies ejected from plum parliamentary leadership posts.
They stated that Uhuru was justified in his actions as Ruto had actively sabotaged the head of state’s efforts at uniting the country towards a common goal by endlessly engaging in succession politics.
The leaders at the same time hit out at politicians they described as having "failed" in the Jubilee Party and were coming up with new political outfits.

“Jubilee members who opined for having failed to deliver in their parties should stop forming other political parties and mainstream their work to service delivery,” the leader of the group said. The statement came as Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader Isaac Rutto initiated a move that will cement his seat at the table of national politics, with over 100 delegates from the Rift Valley endorsing his recent pact with Jubilee Party.
In a move likely to trigger panic in Ruto’s camp, the CCM leader marshalled his supporters from the Rift Valley, the former’s political bedrock, to rally their support behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

The deputy president has publicly opposed the BBI for some time now.
During the meeting held at a hotel in Bomet, the delegates gave the former Bomet governor their blessings, saying his working relationship with the president was a welcome move since it promoted national unity, inclusivity and equitable sharing of resources, the envisaged goals of the BBI process.
The delegates said they fully supported the handshake between the first in command and former prime minister Raila Odinga, saying it would ensure that Kenya became more inclusive, more prosperous and a stronger democratic nation.

“It’s going to ensure that 2020-2030 becomes Kenya’s golden decade of devolution and prosperity,” they said in a statement read out by former Nakuru county gubernatorial aspirant Peter Koros. The delegates, among legal affairs official David Sang, assured Rutto of their unconditional support and vowed to engage in a relentless drive to expand CCM’s grassroots support.
Benjamin Letting, a delegate from the North Rift, said he expected the CCM to use the pact with Jubilee Party to address challenges facing farmers, which he opined ought to be prioritised.
