One more Kenyan doctor has been admitted in intensive care unit (ICU) as COVID-19 cases continue to escalate in the country closing in on the 10,000 mark prompting health workers to raise concerns.
The health officer's admission came just a day after Doreen Lugaliki, a doctor at Nairobi South Hospital, succumbed to the respiratory illness after contracting it in the line of duty.

The new case of the frontline worker battling for life in one of the hospitals in Nairobi was announced by the Ministry of Health and confirmed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) on Saturday, July 11.
"Indeed another one of our own colleagues is in ICU. We reiterate and remind the government of Kenya and all private health facilities that the welfare ,occupational safety and health of frontline workers is a non-negotiable minimum," KMPDU acting secretary general Chibanzi Mwachonda said at a press conference.READ ALSO: Manchester United fan wins £91k after betting Liverpool would win Premier League
Mwachonda made an appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure all health care workers were insured against the highly contagious disease.
"As we mourn, the demise of our colleague Dr Adisa Lugaliki who succumbed to COVID-19 contracted in the line of duty, we appeal to Uhuru Kenyatta on the implementation of your directive for insurance and compensation to health care workers,"he added.On Wednesday, July 8, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe revealed at least 257 health workers had contracted COVID-19 since the first case was confirmed in the country on Friday, March 13.
The CS was speaking in Makueni county where he was assessing the county’s preparedness to combat the pandemic.

"The risk is high and most of our health workers are exposed including in the community.
