The Council of Governors (CoG) has condemned the ouster of Wajir governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud, whose impeachment by the county assembly, was upheld by the Senate on Monday, May 17.
In a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke on Wednesday, May 19, CoG chairman Martin Wambora accused the Senate of violating court orders that barred both the county assembly and the Senate from debating the impeachment motion.
"The council strongly faults the whole process due to the deliberate failure by the Senate committee to consider the governor's exonerating evidence on health as captured by the Nation survey Report on Health published in May 2019," the statement read in part.Ahmed Ali Muktar: Wajir Deputy Governor Sworn-In as County Boss

Wambora, who doubles as the Embu governor, said that the Senate lowered the standard of proof and the threshold on impeachment matters, thus exposing the counties to political upheavals.
"Failure to follow the provisions of Assumptions of office of a Governor Act resulting in a hurried swearing-in of deputy governor. Senate failing to have set standards of what amounts to gross violations of the Constitution. For example, in the Kirinyaga case, the Senate acquitted the governor, charged with similar violations," he explained. The CoG chairman read political witch hunt in the impeachment process, saying that the vice should not disrupt governance.
"In this regard, we shall hold a full council meeting on Friday, May 21, to deliberate on this matter and issue a comprehensive statement," he added.PAY ATTENTION: Click 'See First' under 'Follow' Tab to see Tuko.co.ke news on your FB Feed
