A Nigerian man identified as Onyeka S. Chukwudozie has taken to social media to celebrate his achievements after bagging six scholarships abroad.
Taking to his LinkedIn page, Onyeka who graduated with a first-class from the University of Lagos said he has started his PhD in biological sciences (virology) at the University of California, San Diego.
How it all started
The scholarships didn't come on a platter of gold for the young man who disclosed that there were countless rejections over the years.

According to him, despite the number of publications and research experience, his applications were unsuccessful.
He added that it has been a three-year journey that entails tears, rejections, hope, patience and joy.
After graduating in 2016 with a first-class from the prestigious University of Lagos, he had a dream to pursue graduate studies.
Finally actualised his dream
Onyeka revealed that he had countless rejections despite the number of publications and research experience.
Most of these rejections were mostly from low to middle tier schools, but I kept the perseverance. In fact, I heightened my quest and applied to top schools, and got in," he said.Onyeka never gave up and finally got scholarships from top universities which include the University of California San Diego, Rice University, two offers from Purdue University, University of Kansas and University of Melbourne, Australia.

Onyeka also disclosed that he once hawked mangoes and local drinks in markets and roadside to assist his family in putting food on the table.
He further expressed gratitude to his parents for believing in him, while thanking his friends and mentors for their support.
Getting a chance to pursue his education in the USA made his dream come true, something he is forever grateful for.
Alfred Koech
Onyeka's story is almost similar to Alfred Koech's, a Kenyan who yearned for education abroad so much that he convinced his grandmother to sell her piece of land to raise his fees and airfare.
He currently studies and works in Australia, and recently rewarded the women who made his dream possible with a brand new Mercedes Benz.
Koech also started a foundation to help the needy in his community.
