Deputy President Willliam Ruto has condemned a section of leaders who he accused of hiring youths to cause violence and chaos against opponents visiting their backyards.
Making reference to what happened in Rongo Town, Migori county during ODM ally and a businessman Jimmy Wanjigi's visit to the area, the DP termed the animosity meted on Wanjigi as primitive political tactics.
Protecting backyards
Speaking in Kakamega county on Saturday, September 18, Ruto said it was primitive and backward for any leader to organise thugs and hooligans to disrupt their opponent's functions.

"These young people want jobs, they want to do business, you cannot misuse them by hiring them to throw stones during functions so that you can protect your backyard," Ruto said. His sentiments came after Wanjigi's entourage in Migori county was met with violence when a small pocket of youth began throwing stones at him on Friday, September 17.
Wanjigi's convoy snaked through the county and made a stopover in Rongo Town, where a crowd had gathered in anticipation of his maiden Nyanza tour.
The businessman who was speaking from the sunroof of his car began to address the charged crowd who shouted Baba! Baba! in an apparent reference to ODM leader Raila Odinga.
It did not take long before suspected goons hit his car with stones forcing him to cut short his speech.

Wanjigi tours Nyanza region
Wanjigi, who is on a four-day tour to popularise his presidential bid, is challenging Raila for the ODM party's ticket ahead of the 2022 General Election.
The Murang'a tycoon arrived in the lakeside in the midmorning of Thursday, September 19, to arousing welcome by a section of the party supporters.
He held a brief press briefing at the Kisumu International Aiport, where he launched a scathing attack on the former premier.
The party leadership in Nyanza had dismissed Wanjigi's visit as a private affair that the political outfit was not aware of.
"I saw some letter saying ODM officials are not aware of my visit. Why do I need permission to visit Nyanza or any other place in this country? This is a free country and I am an ODM member who will tour the region and popularise the party the best way I know how. I am a die-hard member of ODM so nobody should restrict my movement. This is a democracy," Wanjigi stated.Source: TUKO.co.ke
