College Student Writes Awkward Email To Professor Explaining Why Her Homework Was Late

We've all been in a position where we shirked a responsibility for some reason. Sometimes the reason is legitimate, like a death in the family or a medical emergency, but some people are far less understanding about things like the death of a pet or a breakup. Even though these situations can be devastating and make it impossible to get work done, it's always a gamble to disclose personal matters like that to a boss or professor.
People have been known to come up with some pretty elaborate excuses to get out of something. But one student recently took excuses to the next level when she shared all the details of her breakup with a teacher and didn't hold any punches.
Rachel Harriman is a 19-year-old student at Ohio State University. Following a recent breakup with her boyfriend, she turned in an assignment for her history class a few hours late and decided to explain why in an email that's got people on Twitter talking.
And yes, it actually worked. Here's her professor's response...
In this case, brutal honesty was the best policy. Harriman ended up getting a B+, and didn't get any points deducted for turning it in late. It's nice to see a professor remember that students are also human beings and sometimes life happens.
Twitter users loved the brutal honesty on display.
Take notes, students — some professors are understanding and compassionate, even if they grade on a curve.
