Profession: President of Zimbabwe
Biography: Emmerson Mnangagwa is a Zimbabwean politician who has served as the President of Zimbabwe since November 2017. He succeeded Robert Mugabe, following Mugabe's resignation. Long a fixture of Zimbabwean politics, Mnangagwa was a leader of the rebel forces in the Rhodesian Bush War, alongside future president Robert Mugabe.
Mnangagwa's rise to power was marked by his association with the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF), where he held various key roles, including as Minister of Defence and Vice President.
A long power struggle with Grace Mugabe—the President's wife— eventually resulted in his being fired as Vice President, the first in the country's history, which triggered a coup on 14 November 2017. Mugabe relinquished power and the military instated Mnangagwa as leader.
