The new AC Milan signing, Samuel Chukwueze, has revealed that the club’s fans and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen impacted his decision to join the Italian giants.

Samuel Chukwueze signed a five-year contract with AC Millan after the Italian giants paid a transfer fee worth €20 million, plus an additional €8 million in different add-ons and performance-related bonuses.

Chukwueze has picked the No. 21 jersey for his debut 2023-2024 season under the tutelage of coach Stefano Pioli at San Siro.

The winger is ready to begin his career in Serie A after six years with Villarreal in La Liga, where he scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists in 50 competitive appearances last season.

After the 24-year-old Nigeria international sealed his move to AC Milan, he revealed to the club’s official website how he was convinced to join the Italian giants.

Samuel Chukwueze said, “When I heard AC Milan wanted to sign me, I was a little bit nervous, and all over my social media, I saw Milan fans sending me messages to come to the club. They are amazing people. And my first impression was the fans, they are the ones who made me come here.

“He (Osimhen) told me nice things about the club and advised me that I shouldn’t hesitate to sign with them. I told him I was going to win against him and we joked about seeing how that goes.”

Samuel Chukwueze and Osimhen have been close friends since their days in the Nigeria under-17 camp and now in the Super Eagles team. Hence, it is not a surprise that the Napoli talisman wants the former Villarreal winger to join him in Italy.

Chukwueze attended Nigeria’s Diamond Football Academy before joining Villarreal in 2017. He made his senior team debut in September 2018, and he went on to appear 207 times, score 37 goals, and win one Europa League title in 2021 for the Spanish side. He has also played 28 times for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, scoring four goals.
